Who You Are Matters: Bella Saghian
Where I come from
I come from LA -- born and raised! However, I grew up in a multi-cultural household, which provided me with a unique perspective of globalization, cultural adaptability, and a broader worldview. My mom was raised by Italian immigrants in America; in stark contrast, my father was born and raised in Tehran. I feel grateful when I reflect on the cultural exposure of my upbringing, ripe with experiences to embrace differences, which has ultimately served as the bedrock of my value system.
Where I'm going
I (hope) to be going to New York once I graduate from USC. I have spent much time in New York since I have many family members there, and could really see myself living there. I am inspired by the limitless opportunities and dedication. The hustle culture in New York is motivating and makes a great place to start my career after graduating.
How I plan to get there
I plan to get to New York by focusing on making the most out of my final year at USC, academically and professionally. I will dedicate myself to my studies and continue building and leveraging my network, particularly through career fairs and USC’s alumni network.
How I'm LIKE my parents
Similar to my parents, I have a strong sense of determination and persistence when pursuing my goals. I have inherited their tenacity and push myself to succeed.
Unlike my parents, who are a bit stubborn, I would consider myself more flexible and open-minded. I am more open to new perspectives, while my parents are firm in their opinions and way of doing things.
Self-expectations
I would say I'm operating under my own expectations because I set personal goals that align with my own aspirations. I would consider myself self-aware, and am eager to work towards my own goals, rather than living off the expectations and demands of others.
Role Model
One of my role models is my high school French teacher. He moved to the US to work on Wall Street, and after spending a chunk of his career there, he decided to pursue his passions; he became a language and philosophy teacher, and also now produces wine on the side. It is interesting to see today how he embraces being both a French and American citizen, embracing the two cultures.
Animal World
I feel a connection to wolves because I value their loyalty to their pack, while maintaining individualism. I believe that I reflect these traits, as I am devoted to my friends and family, while still having my own autonomy.
Nature Kingdoms
My family had an avocado tree at my childhood home, and I was always excited to watch the avocados grow. I eagerly anticipated picking the ripe fruit, but it was always a battle with the squirrels if who would get to them first (it was usually them).
Astrology
Sun Sign: Virgo
Moon Sign: Sagittarius
Rising: Capricorn
We both chose the wolf as the animal we connect with. I also agree that pack environment is important.
ReplyDeleteSee you in New York Bella! I would have killed to have an avocado tree in my backyard. I'm so jealous!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for us to hopefully both be in New York! It seems like you parents, role models, and life experiences have always had multiple culures and viewpoints which has given you such a well rounded view point on life!
ReplyDeleteI also want to end up in New York after graduation, and hope you can achieve your goals! It's great to see that you have a plan for how you can get to your dream city, and maybe I will see you there post-graduation :)
ReplyDeleteI love how your French teacher completely switched gears from Wall Street to teaching. It's also inspiring to see how he blends both French and American cultures.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Bella. I hope to move to New York eventually as well!
ReplyDeleteI saw that you chose the wolf as the animal you connect with most. I would love to live in New York but I think the rent is way too high there! Good luck on your journey to the big apple.
ReplyDeleteWell done Bella! I also hope to move to New York in the near future, as I want to experience the bustling city and the limitless opportunities there.
