Random Post 2: My Addiction to Sushi

While most people crave soups and hot chocolate during winter, I crave sushi. Many switch out their light salads for more comforting foods during the colder seasons, but my craving for sushi stays true — year round, 25/8. Although it may not be a traditional “comfort food,” it is MY comfort food. I eat sushi way more than I like to admit, and at times, my parents are concerned that I may get mercury poisoning from my over-consumption.

Let’s be real, LA’s “cold” seasons aren’t all that cold, but there is a real change in the atmosphere. Especially with the recent daylight savings time shift, LA starts to feel quitier and more reflective. In a place where snow boots just don’t make sense, there is something about having a nice spicy tuna cut roll while cozying up my the fireplace as the city winds down. I know it’s not the conventional winter ritual, but nothing else can quite match this feeling. Some people might look at me funny when I say that, but it is the perfect pairing with an LA “winter.” It is my own celebration of the season.

You may have read my blog about the best Italian Restuarants in LA, and I am here to tell you that I have just as many sushi spots. Many people actually claim that the infamous “spicy tuna crispy rice” was invented in Los Angeles. LA has everything to offer, from traditional omakase, to handroll bars, to Japanese fushion. Despite my high praise of LA’s sushi options, I would love to go to Japan one day and try the real deal. Trying authentic, Japanese sushi is definitely something on my bucket list as a sushi enthusiast.

  1. Hi Bella, based on this and your Italian Restaurant piece, I can definitely tell what you like to write about. I liked how you included pictures in the post and visiting Japan would be so cool.

  2. I totally relate to your love for sushi as a comfort food. It's satisfying in a way nothing else quite matches. The way you tie your passion for LA's sushi to the city's cozy winter vibe makes me want to try that spicy tuna by the fireplace too.

  4. Bella, I can relate to your random post this week because I go get sushi at least once a week with a friend. Sushi is truly the best food and I enjoyed how you compared it to your Italian LA Review article as well.

  5. Bella, I am also extremely addicted to Sushi. I eat sushi at least once a week and I find each sushi meal to be like a debrief with friends or family since everytime I eat it it is at the end of the week. My favorite spot is Kobosu in Toluca Lake.
